Teak and Sapele boards from Midwest Woodworking

I spent a few hours at Midwest Woodworking yesterday afternoon. I pulled aside some of the boards I’ll be purchasing on the day of the event (Bubinga, Sapele, Teak) and spoke about having some custom veneer panels made up from Kawazinga (waterfall) Bubinga. While I was there, five people were cleaning, organizing and preparing the facility for the lumber, veneer and equipment sale in less than two weeks. It’s the cleanest and most organized I’ve ever seen the place, and considering the size, there’s more work planned prior to the event. With the volume of inquiries that have come in over email, calls and , it sounds like we can expect a pretty decent crowd on August 16-17.

A number of people have expressed some concern over the throngs of woodworkers assembling en masse those two days. Will it be too crowded to get what you are looking for? No. It’s a 30,000+ sq/ft building, but it may require people taking numbers to be served. Frank David and crew are taking steps to make sure a system is in place to get everyone through the selection, moving and payment process. For the days of the event, we will have at least 8 people available to help out.

If you can’t make it to the event itself, and are within driving distance, you can schedule a time to come to the facility and pick out stuff then. Contact Frank David at Midwestwd@aol.com, and please be sure to mention you heard about it from this blog.

If you dont’ want to come to Cincinnati in person, ¬†you can have stuff shipped. This is probably more economical in larger quantities like 1000+ bd/ft, but Frank has already shipped a single board of Brazilian Rosewood to California. Find someone else in your area who might be interested and splitting the costs. Again, contact Frank at Midwestwd@aol.com.

  • Lumber prices can be found here. There are also a ton of other species and stockpiles not listed on the price sheet Frank is uncovering that he didn’t know he had like Koa, Red Gum and some 16/4 Tidewater Cypress that was originally used for a water tower project.
  • Veneer prices are here. Again, plenty of other stuff not listed that are waiting to be uncovered. He is also able to make custom sheet goods on spec, and has 100’s of premade teak and walnut lumber core doors/panels that only require edge banding for an instant table top available for a steal.
  • Equipment prices are here. This listing on Pinterest is only a portion of what you can buy. There are plenty of hand/electric tools, clamps and equipment you’d expect to accumulate in an industrial woodworking facility over 60 years.
